Fostering

We are a very small, municipal shelter that often needs temporary space for dogs.  We are looking for some serious foster families who are available to host animals in their homes for up to several months.  Although most of the dogs will be adults, on occasion we may have an older puppy (over 7 months) available to foster.  Very rarely we may get a young puppy (3 months or younger) who isn't eligible for immediate adoption.

By welcoming one of our dogs into your home, you will not only be helping us by freeing up kennel space, you'll also be allowing a dog in need of special care the ability to transition between families in a comfortable, caring home environment.  ROAS will provide food, medical care, and any other equipment (crates, leashes, etc.) you might need.

If you are interested in fostering, please be aware that you will most likely be housing a large, mixed-breed, adult dog (i.e. Shepherds, Labs, Pitties).  Many of these dogs may have little or no training; we rely on our foster families to help teach some much needed manners!  As a foster family, you also understand that ROAS is not responsible for any damages that may occur while the dog is in your possession.

Approved foster families do not need to reapply to foster and may choose to accept or decline any potential fosters that become available.  If you need to return the dog for any reason before they are available for adoption, there may be a delay before we are able to free up kennel space, but we will do our best to get them back from you as quickly as possible.

How It Works

Before the dog leaves for his stay in your home, we will post their picture and profile on our PetFinder site (www.petfinder.com/ROAS).  Because our ultimate goal is to find these pets forever homes, foster families must be available to bring their fosters to ROAS at agreed-upon times to meet potential adopters.  If everything goes well and the family is approved, we will arrange to have the adoption completed at ROAS.
