Breaking and Entering:
Peter’s Restaurant, 1307 E. Eleven Mile, 8-13-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect smashed a window, entered the business and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. 11-2961
Camellia’s, 1304 E. Eleven Mile, 8-13-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect smashed out the side entry door in an attempt to enter the building. The suspect was not able to get inside. 11-2961
Home Invasion:
1100 block of N. Campbell, 8-11-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect pried open a window and entered his home. The suspect stole numerous items including laptops and cameras. 11-2926
4100 block of Cooper, 8-12-11, (Occurred on 7-24-11): The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole collectible coins and other collectable items from his home. 11-2928
Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile
100 block of Normandy, 8-12-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole his 1999 black Honda Civic. 11-2943
Ravenna and Woodward Avenue, 8-17-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole his 1967 blue Camaro. 11-3007
Larceny from Auto:
3100 block of N. Alexander, 8-11-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect entered his vehicle and stole miscellaneous electric tools. 11-2923
1100 block of E. Lincoln, 8-12-11: Royal Oak officers responded to the report of a larceny from auto in progress. The complainant called the police after he had watched the suspect enter two (2) vehicles. Upon arrival the officers located the suspect who was walking away from the area. The suspect was found to be in possession of a stolen watch, cell phone, CD’s and sunglasses. Royal Oak officers determined which property belonged to which two (2) unlocked vehicles and arrested the suspect for two (2) counts of Larceny of an Automobile. 11-2941
3000 block of N. Altadena, 8-12-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect entered her unlocked vehicle and stole approximately 100 CD’s. 11-2944
2900 block of N. Altadena, 8-12-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect entered his unlocked vehicle and stole a Garmin portable GPS unit and a pair of shoes. 11-2945
4800 block of Briarwood, 8-12-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect used a pry bar to pry open his vehicle. The suspect stole a laptop computer and a backpack. 11-2948
Other Incidents:
3200 block of Albert, 8-11-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect keyed the driver’s side door while it was parked on the street in front of his residence. 11-2927
3601 W. Thirteen Mile, 8-11-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole the center caps from all four of his vehicle tires. 11-2929
5150 Coolidge, 8-11-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect keyed her driver’s side door and fender. 11-2930
Walton Wood Manor, 3450 W. Thirteen Mile, 8-12-11: The complainant reported that he had an undisclosed amount of currency stolen from his room. A second resident also reported that she had a ring taken from her room. 11-2950
4100 block of Rochester, 8-12-11: The complainant reported that the front window of his home was shattered by a bullet. Royal Oak officers arrived on scene and noticed a male across the street working on the window of his home. The male quickly went into the home when he saw the officers arrive. The officers questioned the male and discovered that he had accidently discharged a handgun while inside his home. The bullet travelled through his window and into the home across the street. The male stated that he was preparing his 9mm Glock for cleaning and he accidently discharged a round. Nobody was injured at either home. 11-2951
3300 block of Ellwood, 8-13-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect threw eggs at his vehicle causing damage to the paint. 11-2972
7-11, 4623 block of Crooks, 8-16-11: The complainant reported that three (3) black male teens stole his light green Next Chaos BMX bike. 11-2994
27000 block of Woodward Avenue, 8-18-11: Royal Oak officers located a suspicious vehicle parked on Woodward. Upon further investigation, the officer found that the vehicle was unoccupied and a loaded .45 caliber handgun was sitting on the rear passenger seat. Royal Oak officers impounded the vehicle and confiscated the firearm. 11-3003
200 block of N. Main, 8-17-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole the license plate from his vehicle. 11-3009
Tomkiw Enright, 612 E. Fourth Street, 8-18-11: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect broke the glass on a door. 11-3020
Commercial Breaking and Entering Update
In the month of July and early August of 2011, the City of Royal Oak experienced a rash of Breaking and Enterings. Royal Oak detectives began compiling various pieces of evidence from each scene and developed a person of interest who we believed was responsible for as many as seven (7) of the break-ins. Royal Oak detectives, working in conjunction with the Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team, began surveillance on the suspect.
On August 7th at 1:30 a.m., the surveillance team arrested the suspect as he exited a business he had just broken into in Madison Heights. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with Breaking and Entering. Royal Oak detectives interviewed the suspect regarding the seven (7) break-ins in Royal Oak. The suspect confessed to committing five (5) of them. Warrants for the five (5) Breaking and Enterings have been obtained. The suspect has not been arraigned as of yet. Several other cases are still under investigation in an attempt to link the suspect to those crimes.
