SOAA Passion for Painting
This month the South Oakland Art Association calls on one of its newer members, Jacqueline Drake to discuss the Passion of Painting. Jacqueline is originally from Royal Oak and a graduate of Royal Oak Kimball High School. After working at Beaumont Hospital for several years in nursing, she decided to go back to school, and attended an Art school in Austin Texas. She has also studied with many masters in the healing arts. Combining her passion for healing with her artistic talent she has turned her vocation towards Art Therapy. Jacqueline will talk at the SOAA meeting on Monday, May 7, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 814 N. Campbell Road.
Campbell Road is ½ mile west of I-75 and the church is between 11 and 12 Mile Roads. The meeting starts at 7:00pm and usually concludes by 9pm. All artists and art lovers are invited to this free lecture. Refreshments will be served.
Jacqueline Drake has been a mixed media artist for several years. Using a uniquely intuitive process, she creates beautiful art on canvas. With her extensive knowledge of colors and textures she produces a total sensory experience for the viewer.
After having success as a muralist and as a commissioned artist, she realized that there was a vital part of herself missing from her work. She was creating what other people wanted and needed, but was not being true to her own artistic vision.
Jacqueline was led to study under the masters in the intuitive and meditative healing arts. Combining these understandings, with her nursing background and her natural artistic talent, it has followed that her work has become a true expression of her heart and soul.
Jacqueline’s work is a visual representation of her willingness to allow spirit to guide her pallet and brush. It is her deep desire that through her work others can come to know the peace of a divine connection and expression.
In addition to her artistic work Jacqueline is also a busy mother of two boys and loving wife to her supportive husband. She has found that the integration of her artistic self with the demands of a mother and wife bring balance to her life and peace in her heart and home.
Keeping Faith Acrylic, Mixed Media 48”x24” 2.4.2012
As I sat down in mediation before I started this painting, I had no idea what would come out. At that time I seemed to have a lot of uncertainty surrounding me. Many decisions had to be made, that may have had and may have lasting effects on all those involved. I had been diving deep into my art –“to soul search” on these decisions. So, as with all my paintings, I start with the emotion, and sit until it comes out onto canvas. And I found myself Keeping Faith in these decisions.
