Michigan Youth Arts is holding a 5k/10k Walk/Run on Saturday morning, August 30 in conjunction with Arts, Beats, & Eats in downtown Royal Oak. Family-friendly and suitable for both runners and walkers, the Arts in Motion event raises money to support arts education in Michigan schools. "Citizen Scientist” is is a new program that will help us with research within Tenhave Woods. With your help, we will be searching for and counting Giant Swallowtail butterfly larva on Prickly ash in order to get information on their population. We may also continue our search for Shumard Oak which we believe is in Tenhave but we haven’t located yet. If found, this would be the furthest north any have been found in the state. The South Oakland Art Association kicks off their 53rd season with mixed-media artist Bethany Trailer. Trailer will discuss and demonstrate how to create her amazing self-discovered painting technique. She creates patterns in the cement and then uses multiple coats of paints and glazes over the cement. Something new and fresh!Read more »
AIDS Walk Detroit provides financial support for programs in HIV prevention, education and services for HIV positive individuals. The organization promotes public awareness through events and activities to ensure people living with HIV/AIDS are treated with dignity and respect.
Say goodbye to Summer and hello to Fall with a free concert featuring the Motor City Brass Band. The doors open at 4:00 pm and the concert begins at 4:30 pm at the Leo Mahany / Harold Meininger Senior Community Center, 3500 Marais Ave - East of Crooks/North of 13 Mile Rd. The Concert is to be held outside, so bring a chair or lawn blanket. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Community Center. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

The Mahany/Meininger Senior Community Center (3500 Marais Ave, Royal Oak MI 48073) is hosting a Health and Wellness Fair and Raffle. The event will start at 12:00 noon on September 30, 2014. Activities include Flu immunizations, blood pressure and glucose screening, balance screening, chiropractic screening, and information on nutrition, natural healing methods, human services, foot care, reading materials for low vision and vision impaired, and more. There will be a free Computer and Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, October 4th at the Royal Oak Department of Public Service located at 1200 N Campbell Rd, Royal Oak MI 48073. This event is open to the public. During the event, they will be accepting TVs, computers, consumer electronics, home office equipment, and large kitchen appliances at no charge! (Excluding items containing Freon (ie. fridges), biohazards, hazardous waste, liquids of any type; fluorescent bulbs or smoke detectors).
