International Peace Day Commemoration

Event - Date & Time:
Tuesday, September 21, 2010 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

In honor of International Peace Day, the Royal Oak Public Library is proud to present The Cats of Mirikitani, Linda Hattendorf’s documentary of one man’s journey through war, internment camps, homelessness and the tragedy of 9/11. Please join us at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 21 in the Royal Oak Public Library Friends Auditorium. A short discussion will follow the screening. The film is 74 minutes long; in English and Japanese with English subtitles.

Blending beauty and humor with tragedy and loss, The Cats of Mirikitani is an intimate exploration of the lingering wounds of war and the healing power of art. Given the current resurfacing of the disturbing face of intolerance surrounding the building of a Muslim Unity center in New York, this beautiful film is the perfect opening for more discussion around diversity, freedom, tolerance and love.

Registration is suggested. Visit ropl.org or call the Adult Reference Desk at 248-246-3727 to sign up for this free program.
