Child Car Seat Safety Check
State Representative Jim Townsend (D-Royal Oak) will be holding a free Child Car Seat Safety Check on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the south parking lot and deck of Beaumont Hospital - Royal Oak Campus, 3601 W. 13 Mile Road in Royal Oak. Event allows residents to ensure their car seats are installed securely and safely. Appointments for the event are recommended and can be made by contacting Alex Fike in Rep. Townsend's office at (866) 585-2471.
"As a dad with two sons, I know how just how serious our children's safety is and I remember how important it was to make sure that their car seats were properly installed," Townsend said. "Child safety seats are the law in Michigan, but simply having one is not enough. A seat improperly installed will not do its job, and a child in a seat that hasn't been correctly installed is not as safe as he or she should be. That's why I am encouraging every parent of a small child to come to this event."
Under Michigan law, all children should have a safety or booster seat of some sort until eight years of age or until they reach a height of 4'9". Parents need to bring their children to the event for an accurate check of the child safety seat.
Anyone needing more information on the event may call Rep. Jim Townsend's office toll-free at (866) 585-2471 or send an email to jimtownsend@house.mi.gov
