Rain Causes Delay in Park Mowing

Royal Oak – after an unusual rain spell, the City of Royal Oak found it difficult to mow the local parks. Not to worry, they will be manicured soon.

According to Greg Rassel, City Public Works director, the rain softened the ground making grass near impossible to cut without causing ruts and other damage to the ground and equipment.  “We actually needed a tow truck to rescue one of our tractors last week,” said Rassel.  “Even now, some of the parks are still too soft to support our equipment.”  As the ground dries, it is a City priority to mow the athletic fields first.

After recent budget cuts, the Public Works staff is not as large as it once was. This is causing an even greater delay for public park maintenance.

“We’re trying to get to the larger areas first, where we know people are going. It should be taken care of within the next week,” said Rassel.
