Google Fiber for Royal Oak
Google Announces Kansas City as the recipient of the fiber community project.
Google headquarters in Mountain View California announced a plan to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the country. The experiment is called “Google Fiber for Communities” and for those lucky pilot areas selected, it will deliver fiber-to-the-home connections with Internet speeds of more than 100 times faster (1 gigabit per second) than what most residents have access to today at a competitive price. Google’s intention is to select a target community area or areas of at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people. The City of Royal Oak wants to be selected as one of the pilot communities.
The first step in Google’s plan is the invitation for interested municipalities to submit relevant community information through an online Request for Information (RFI) by March 26th, 2010. The RFI will be used in determining who will be chosen. Certainly, this project would be extremely beneficial for Royal Oak’s vibrant and diverse community.
While we actively worked to complete the application, we greatly appreciated your support in helping us prove to Google that Royal Oak is deserving of their innovative ultra-high speed Internet service.
