Wednesday, March 7, 9:30a-4p; The South Oakland Business Expo (SOBE), presented by the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce and brought to you by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan. State Representative Jim Townsend (D-Royal Oak) will hold a town hall meeting to inform people about the senior tax on pensions, 401(k)s, IRAs and other forms of retirement income. The tax, which Rep. Townsend voted against, took effect on Jan. 1 and people who receive retirement income have started to see money withheld for this new tax. Tax professionals, including Sheryl Lucas and Denise Dibbs from H&R Block and Jim Reinert of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants will be on-hand to answer questions.

You're invited to Comedy for a Cause! A night of entertainment and laughter that benefits the Salvation Army's Bed & Bread Club Radiothon. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle at 248.542.9900. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Although the jokes will be kept squeaky clean for this comedy event, the show is open only to adults age 18 and up. The Royal Oak Hockey Association is having a MOM2MOM sale at the Royal Oak High School on March 3 from 9am to 1pm at the Royal Oak High School. This is a fundraiser to support the Royal Oak Hockey Association and will help to provide much needed items such as scholarships and equipment.

Visit the Royal Oak Public Library (222 E. Eleven Mile Road) for the Friends Annual Book Sale on March 14th, 15th, and 16th. Gently used children’s books will be on sale in the Youth Activity Room and adult books, CDs and DVDs will be on sale in the Friends Auditorium. LPs, sheet music, toys, and magazines are included in the sale. Thursday, March 14, from 5 PM – 8 PM is the Friends preview night (memberships available at the door).Read more »

The animals at the Royal Oak Animal Shelter say "Fur-Get Me Not" this Valentine's Day.  Come see the wonderful adoptable cats and dogs at the shelter from 11am to 4pm on Saturday February 11th and meet your Valentine.  There will be special pricing in effect for this adoption event. On Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 the Royal Oak Nature Society will host, "Fishes of Death Valley" beginning at 7:30pm in the Royal Oak Middle School auditorium. Come and learn from Bob Muller, Royal Oak Nature Society Naturalist, about some of America’s most endangered and unusual wildlife. This is a free event and the public is invited. Musical Meteorology", a benefit performance at Royal Oak First United Methodist Church to support the Welcome Inn Shelter. On Jan. 14 and 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can enjoy family-friendly events at the Detroit Zoo while having winter fun with arts and crafts and live performances.  This series of events feature children’s music, zookeeper talks, games and crafts.
