There will be an informal dedication ceremony during the USAPA sanctioned (Tier 3) Royal Oak Pickleball Tournament on Saturday August 25th at 9:00am. Pat Sullivan will be honored for her involvement as a community leader and tireless volunteer efforts over the past five years, promoting and teaching pickleball. Pat was instrumental in the design and building of the Whittier Park courts. The Royal Oak Jaycees presents the 3rd Annual "Royal Oak Chili Cook off" on November 10th from 5pm- to 9pm at the Royal Oak Farmers Market! Now in it's third year, the Royal Oak Chili Cookoff brings together local restaurants, community groups, students, and individuals in a competition searching for the area's best chili. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of South Oakland County, the Royal Oak Animal Shelter, and the Royal Oak Jaycees! On August 4, the Royal Oak Historical Society Museum will open it's new exhibit "Woodward Memories Then & Now". The Exhibit will display views of Woodward Ave and recount the history of Woodward Ave from the 1900's to its present day image. The exhibit will run the whole month of August and is sponsored by Larry Burr, Matthews-Hargreaves Chevrolet.
Special open hours for August are Monday through Friday, 2pm - 8pm. Regular museum hours are: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 1pm - 4pm.Read more »

Family-friendly and suitable for both runners and walkers, the Arts in Motion 5k raises money to support arts education in Michigan schools. The “Meadow of the Arboretum” nature walk program is being held at the Royal Oak Nature Society Arboretum on Wednesday, July 17th, 2013 and again on August 21st, 2013.
