Department Responsibilities: The Human Resources Department oversees the employment process, including the recruitment, application, selection and orientation of new employees. The department assists in the training, evaluation and promotion of existing employees. It participates in negotiations and day to day administration of employee contracts; administers employee and retiree insurance and benefit plans, and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws.
Employment Opportunities: Click on "Job Openings", to review descriptions of current municipal government job openings with the City of Royal Oak. These descriptions are also available in the Human Resource Department and are posted on bulletin boards in City buildings. These descriptions include the title of the job opening, examples of duties and responsibilities, qualifications needed to apply, compensation and the deadline by which applications must be received.
The most common full-time positions posted by the City are Police Officer and Firefighter. Other positions are posted as needed.
Part-time and seasonal jobs include Summer Laborers for the Department of Public Service, Library Pages and Aides, and Parking Attendants.

Applications are only accepted for currently advertised vacancies.
Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. Candidates are then scheduled for an examination and/or interview, and placed on an eligibility list, which is usually good for one year. The Department Head notifies applicants for a final interview as vacancies arise.
