Oakland County Parks & Recreation invites area Birders to the Oakland Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count Tally. Help with the 115th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count and join birders across the country search for birds. The Tally is all day Saturday, Dec. 20 from 7:30am - 4:00 pm or earlier if Owling. Meet from 4 - 7 p.m. at Wint Nature Center, 9501 Sashabaw Road in Clarkston for a Tally Rally after the Christmas Bird Count. The Oakland County Parks and Recreation Adaptive Recreation program is hosting an Almost New Year's celebration. Individuals 18 and over with developmental disabilities and their families and friends are welcome to celebrate New Year’s Eve early! There will be pizza, music, dancing and New Year's Eve festivities! Pre-registration is required for one of two dates: Dec. 29 or 30. Cost is $8/person by Dec. 19, $10/person beginning Dec. 20. "The Highs And Lows Of Birding Peru” speaker program is being held on Wednesday, January 7th, 2015 beginning 7:30 pm at the Royal Oak Middle School (709 N Washington). In Peru, birding can take you from the Amazon River basin at 750 feet all the way to mountains above 14,000 feet. With habitats ranging from hot and humid to dry and cold, the variety of birds is simply tremendous. Don Burlett, Oakland Audubon Society President, will discuss his recent trip to Peru and the fantastic sights and animals seen there. This event is free and open to the public.Read more »
The Starr Showcase Coffeehouse will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015. It is a benefit concert to raise funds to support the warming shelter at Starr Presbyterian Church. The warming shelter is an organization of local churches that take turns providing overnight accommodations for the homeless during the winter months. The coffeehouse is from 7pm to 10pm. (Doors open at 6:30pm) It is located in the fellowship hall of Starr Presbyterian church on the southwest corner of 13 Mile and Crooks Rd.Read more »
