Memorial Day Community Parade

Event - Date & Time:
Monday, May 25, 2015 - 9:00am - 11:30am

The Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade Committee announced plans for this year's parade which will be held on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015.  All veterans, veterans’ groups, school, and community organizations are invited to participate in this expression of our community’s gratitude to our fallen heroes.  The theme remains "Honor Our Country, Honor Our Flag”, but this year the Committee will pay special tribute to our Royal Oak Police, Fire, and other emergency responders who are currently serving, or have served, in the military. The parade will start at 9:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, near Main Street and Harrison and will proceed north to Second Street where the traditional post-parade Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Oak Veteran's Memorial at Veteran’s Plaza.

Young children will once again be encouraged to decorate their bikes and ride in the parade with a veteran or family member, and families and individuals who have lost loved ones are invited to march in the parade carrying the folded U.S. Flag received at the veteran’s memorial service.

In preparation for the Memorial Day tribute, the Royal Oak Memorial Society is seeking individuals and groups to help clean veterans’ graves at Oakview Cemetery on May 2nd and 9th from 10 a.m. until noon and to help place US flags next to the graves on May 23rd from 10:00 a.m. until noon.

As always, the Royal Oak Historical Society will hold its annual Memorial Day pancake breakfast from 7:00 a.m. until noon at the Royal Oak Farmers Market.
