Park in Royal OakDid you know there's some cheap and even FREE parking in downtown Royal Oak?

Here's a guide to finding a parking space that is just right for you!

Cheap options

Before 5 p.m. metered parking is only 25 cents per hour in the lots adjacent to the Royal Oak Farmers Market, after 5 p.m. it goes up to 50 cents per hour. (The lot west of the Farmers Market on Troy Street takes credit cards, if you forget to bring change.)

Parking is also 50 cents per hour all day in the Sherman Drive lot near Fourth Street and Washington Avenue.

If you are planning to spend the day downtown, consider the parking structures. Both structures on Lafayette have a $3 flat rate; the Center Street structure has a $5 flat rate.

Free options

The first two hours are always free before 5 p.m. in Royal Oak's parking structures located at:

  • Center Street at Third
  • Lafayette Avenue at Sixth
  • Lafayette north of Fourth


Parking is also always free on Sundays, national holidays and daily from midnight to 11 a.m.

Parking is also free during regular hours at the Royal Oak Farmers Market, located at 316 E 11 Mile Rd., in the lots adjacent to the market.

What to do if you get a parking ticket

Should you find a ticket on your windshield, credit card payments can be made online at Government Payment Services, Inc or here for Mobile Users, or by calling 1-888-604-7888. You will need to provide the following:

  • The 44th District Court 4-digit Pay Location Code # (3031)
  • Your ticket or case number
  • The amount owed


Parking structures and permits

For those who worry about parking tickets, just check out maps and park in one of the three structures for the flat fee. The hourly rate for parking at the two attended structures located at Sixth Street and Lafayette and Second Street and Center is 50 cents per hour with the first two hours of parking free and a flat rate of $3 after 5 p.m. Center Street parking structure charges a flat rate of $5 after 5 p.m. A parking card is required at Fourth and Lafayette.

Metered parking

There is on-street and off-street metered parking available. The seven metered lots located in the downtown area offering parking from 30 minutes to 12 hours. Parking tags for use at the 3 lots along Williams Street are also available at the Treasurer’s Office. Sundays and Civic Holidays are free.

Amtrak parking

(Not available during Arts, Beats & Eats Festival-Labor Day Weekend Friday-Monday)

A section of meters in the Sherman Drive parking lot (across the street from the bus station) has been designated for those people riding the Amtrak train. A special Amtrak parking pass can be purchased from either the City Treasurer’s Office or the SMART bus station at a cost of $5.00 per day. Sundays and Civic Holidays are free.

Permits may also be purchased at the kiosk in the Sherman lot adjacent to the train station.
