Design Concept Approved
The 400 N Main project design concept was approved by the City Planning Commission at the December meeting. Community leaders, area neighbors, association groups, businesses, and other individuals voiced their concerns and accolades for the developer and building designs presented by Krieger-Klatt Architects, Inc. The buildings include an 8-story hotel, 8-story apartment building, a 5-story building with office and restaurant, a 3-story retail and office building and a 4-level off-street parking deck. The parking deck drew constructive criticism from Commission members and neighbors, but the architect said this was something they will work with the City to improve.
Mayor Ellison said, "This is the right project at the right time" and is looking forward to working with the developer to put on the finishing touches. Planning Director Tim Thwing was pleased with the results after working on several different renditions of the design layout and building placement. The focus was to achieve a compatible appearance and cohesive look with the surrounding area and getting that special redevelopment just right for Royal Oak.
